Silverfish

Silverfish are a threat to human beings and are considered a nuisance pest. Silverfish insects are also known as ‘fish moths’. They not only cause property damage by chewing holes in upholstery, books, clothing, wallpapers and other essential elements of your premises but also trigger allergic reactions in people. However, they are unlikely to bite or excrete poisonous materials that may harm human beings.

• Silverfish are one of the most ancient creatures on the planet.
• Silverfish are extremely fast.
• Silverfish are silver in colour, are small and wingless.
• Silverfish feed on paper items, clothing, glue and food items like oats and flour.
• Silverfish are cannibalistic and love feeding on dried beef and other dead or injured Silverfish.
• Silverfish resemble the swimming motion of a fish when they run.
• Silverfish find their habitat in moist and humid areas with little to no traffic and with a reliable source of food.
• The most favourite food of Silverfish is the glue in the binding of books. The average lifespan of Silverfish bugs is 4 years.

• They do not bite or carry pathogens that cause diseases. However, they may cause allergies in some people which usually goes away after some days. They cause great destruction to clothing, household goods, paper towels, stored food, wallpaper, upholstery and other materials rich in starch.
